On the 19th Nov 2011, WMCL organised a children’s fashion show to raise money for new humanitarian projects in Libya. The children were dressed in an array of outfits, from traditional Libyan costume, to modern street wear inspired by themes, symbols, logos and colours from the Libyan revolution. The children looked adorable parading their outfits down the runway and drew loud cheers and applause from the audience.

After the fashion show, guests mingled and caught up with each other’s news. The event included stalls selling food, from savoury Libyan dishes such as couscous to treats that would satisfy the most ssweet-toothed fanciers such as cupcakes, brownies and basbusa.

There was also plenty to keep the children entertained with face-painting, arts and crafts and biscuit decorating stalls.

Entry fees to the children’s show and money collected from the stalls raised over £1700. This amazing amount will go towards WMCL’s new humanitarian projects which will include training psychology graduates to treat trauma patients in Libya. More information about our appeal for this project will be released soon. In the meantime, please read our power point presentation given during the event for an overview of our work: past current and future!

Thank you to everyone who attended the children’s fashion show, everyone who volunteered and a special thank you and shout out goes to WMCL volunteers Amani Elhouderi, Maisem Mabruk and Areej Shabani who designed, rehearsed and organised the clothes and the children. Not an easy task but they managed it all with style and a smile.
